PROJECT IN FOCUS – Rukmani Parasmani
Location: Kolkata
Typology: Residential
Year of completion: 2023
Design Concept: Design ethos that blended opulence with functionality, exuding contemporary elegance while respecting the client’s religious practices.
Material Palette: A harmonious blend of tradition with modern comfort
What we heart: Throughout the design process, priority was given to functionality, aesthetics and reverence for the family’s values, resulting in a home that not only surpassed expectations but also served as a reflection of their unique identity and lifestyle.

Nestled in the vibrant city of Kolkata, Rukmani Parasmani is a residential project by JJ Studio involving a comprehensive process, from initial conceptualization to the final touches of construction and interior design. A key challenge was to infuse a sense of spaciousness within the confined space. To address this, one of the balconies was integrated into the dining area. Additionally, they introduced a swing and adorned a wall with a mural to carve out a cosy enclave within the dining space.

A pivotal aspect of the design was the incorporation of a prominent mandir to honour the family’s religious beliefs. A dedicated space was crafted that exuded reverence and serenity, serving as the spiritual focal point of the home. At the entrance, a previously overlooked area was transformed into a functional utility space. Employing slim partitions and fluted glass, natural light permeated the space, illuminating the entryway. Each bedroom was tailored to reflect the individual personalities of the family members while maintaining a cohesive design language throughout the home. The master bedroom was conceived as a sanctuary of luxury, featuring indulgent furnishings and sumptuous textiles.

Throughout the design process, they prioritised functionality, aesthetics, and reverence for the family’s values, resulting in a home that not only surpassed expectations but also served as a reflection of their unique identity and lifestyle.
