Nippon Paint India has officially launched its much-anticipated Color Vision Book for 2024-2025 in Bengaluru. This visionary initiative is the outcome of Nippon Paint’s collaboration with the esteemed color expert, Dr. Kaustav Sengupta, from the National Institute of Fashion Technology, who also serves as the Color Consultant for Nippon Paint India.
Breaking new ground, the second edition of Color Vision ventures into forecasting color palettes specifically tailored for the youth and different regional zones, showcasing the diversity and richness of India through the lens of color. Recognizing the pivotal role that color plays in India’s emotional, social, and cultural fabric, Nippon Paint aims to celebrate the vibrant tapestry of the nation.
The Color Vision’s foresight system, based on Dr. Kaustav Sengupta’s copyrighted method, employs a unique ‘Color Foresight Cube’ to map color signifiers through signals and drivers. This innovative approach helps discern shifts and patterns in plausible color directions, considering emotional, bio-behavioral, cultural, and social metatags. The cube, utilizing its technology, creates patterns for the north, south, and youth segments, providing a comprehensive overview of the current mindset.
From extensive research, 12 key archetypes emerged:
Heal – Reflecting the need for comfort with shades like Sunken Forest, Cloud Grass, Diver’s Paradise and Circus Top
Bloomers – A desire to express through creativity with shades like Leap of Faith, Shocking Yellow, Be My Valentine, Knockout Red
Hive – The need to cohabitate and bond with shades like Orange Soda, Electricity, Young Violet and Caribbean Coast
Soulcore – An inquiry into oneself with shades like Marry Go Round, Sea of Coral, Patchwark and Darkest Hour
The forecasting process for Color Vision spanned over 16 months and involved analyzing around 30,000 meta-tags. Color cues underwent scrutiny through multiple focus groups comprising influencers, color catalysts, domain experts, and practitioners across various cities in India.
The gathering was addressed by Mr. Mahesh Anand, President, and Mr. Mark Titus, VP Marketing, Nippon Paint India. Moderated by Seema Sreedharan, editor of Architecture+Design, along with Dr. Kaustav Sengupta, Principal Investigator and Director Insights- VisioNxt, NIFT and Expert Futurist and Color forecaster- Nippon Color Vision Color Forecast, Husna Rahaman, Principal Creative Director, Fulcrum Studio, Shalini Chandrashekar, Principal Architect and Co-Founder Taliesyn – Design & Architecture, Arun Shekar Gowda, Artistic Director at Humming Tree, shed light on the science behind colors. Dr. Kaustav Sengupta expressed gratitude for the partnership with Nippon Paint, emphasizing the diversity showcased in the palette.

We are proud to unveil 12 unique archetypes, finely crafted to reflect the exuberance of the North, the depth of the South, and the ever-evolving expressions of our vibrant youth.”
While initially developed for home colors, the Color Vision archetypes have the potential to influence various product segments, including personal goods, digital and electronics, FMCG, and automobiles. Nippon Paint has also launched a dedicated Color Vision website, allowing customers to explore and download the e-book to stay ahead of color trends.
