Gurugram has a new luxury destination. The brainchild of designer Disha Arora, White Ash Studio brings to its customers the best in the world of design. Inspired by her travels, yet rooted in her love for Indian craftsmanship, Disha realised the need to introduce to the market a space that brings together the best of both worlds. We caught up with Disha for a quick tete-a-tete. Here’s an extract:
What inspired you to conceptualise White Ash Studio?
Disha Arora (DA): Charles Eames rightly said – The details are not the details. They make the design. At White Ash Studio, we believe the aesthetic and the details go hand in hand. Zooming into the details is a significant foundation of our designs. My travels have given me great exposure to global aesthetics; I’ve always been inspired by Indian craftsmanship.
How would you define your design aesthetics?
DA: Scandinavian style is what speaks to me, that in itself is inspired by nature and climate. I seek inspiration from simple decluttered interior spaces, filled with just the right amount of furniture and accessories. There should always be enough room to breathe. White Ash is all about subtle elegance. The designs are an amalgamation of rustic minimalism and functional aesthetic.
Take us through the design process at White Ash Studio.
DA: The Studio’s creative process has a strong urban DNA that is driven by ergonomics and luxury. It is fuelled by customer needs and global trends, each creation at White Ash Studio is visioned into numerous sketches. This is carefully brought to life with our extensive research of material and trends.
What materials do you like working with the most?
DA: “I love how multifaceted wood is. I love the honesty of wood. Its imperfections, its incessant movement and its versatility. Weathered with experience just like wood grains, our workmanship is driven by design. At White Ash Studio, we tell a story with every hand-crafted piece. Characterized by minimal & responsive design, clean lines and vivid luxe colours.
