A home is more than just walls and a roof; it’s a sanctuary where life unfolds, memories are made and tranquility resides. Nestled on the 24th floor of a tower in Hyderabad’s bustling Financial District, this 6,666 sq. ft. residence is a testament to the art of minimalist living, designed by the visionary team at VAL Atelier.
The Vision Behind the Design
“Our concept for the project was simple—clean and minimal,” shares Vaishnavi Linga, Principal Architect at VAL Atelier. This philosophy is the cornerstone of the home, realized through the bold yet subtle use of microtopping across all surfaces—from the floors to the ceilings. This singular material unifies the space, creating a fluid continuity that feels both modern and timeless.
The muted grey tones of microtopping serve as a neutral canvas, subtly textured to add depth without overwhelming the senses. Complementing this backdrop are natural materials like wood and stone, which infuse the home with warmth and character. The interplay between the cool, sleek surfaces and the earthy elements crafts a sensory experience that is both grounded and refined.
A Thoughtful Layout
The home’s layout is thoughtfully divided across two levels. The lower floor features the foyer, a guest room, and a child’s bedroom, while the upper level houses the open-plan common areas and the master suite.
Stepping inside, the eye is naturally drawn across the seamless surfaces, with the space’s flow gently guiding movement. A minimalist seating area near the entrance sets the tone, its dark, monochromatic palette echoed in the furnishings and accent walls. A bench, crafted from the same microtopping as the walls, appears to be an extension of the structure itself—a testament to the home’s cohesive design language.
A Journey Through Space
The transition from the foyer to the heart of the home is marked by a striking set of staggered wooden steps. These are not merely functional but serve as an architectural feature, their simple form offering a surprising visual twist. Flanked by greenery and textured stone cladding, the staircase feels like a pathway through a serene landscape, inviting one to explore further. The warmth of the wood underfoot, mirrored in select furniture pieces and art, weaves a quiet narrative of unity throughout the home.
Ascending to the upper level, the living, dining, and kitchen areas unfold, bathed in natural light that pours in from an adjoining balcony. The kitchen is a model of minimalist sophistication, its sleek lines and modern finishes standing in quiet contrast to the organic warmth of the dining table—crafted from the same wood that appears throughout the home. The living area, though rooted in neutrality, bursts to life with vibrant accents in the furnishings, adding a dynamic energy that balances the space’s calm.
Private Sanctuaries
Beyond the communal areas lie the private quarters. The master bedroom exudes a sense of calm, with soft furnishings carefully curated to create a cozy, restful retreat. The child’s room, in contrast, is a lively expression of youthful energy, filled with playful forms, bright colors, and materials that reflect the child’s vibrant personality.
The Essence of Concrete Canvas
At its core, this home embodies the philosophy of Concrete Canvas—where simplicity meets sophistication, and every element contributes to a greater narrative of balance and beauty. The seamless integration of materials like microtopping, wood, and stone ensures that each space feels like a natural extension of the one before.
This is not a home that shouts for attention. Instead, it speaks softly through its thoughtful details and harmonious design. It’s a sanctuary where the beauty lies in the quiet, in the subtle textures, and in the effortless flow of space—a place where one can always find comfort, peace, and a profound sense of belonging.
