Unveiling the Playful Spirit: A closer look at 5Ft. Apart’s vibrant transformation of a Bengaluru apartment

Stepping into the foyer of this stunning apartment designed by Taarini Jouhari, founder of 5Ft. Apart, is akin to entering a vibrant, inviting oasis. From the playful floral wallpaper and mirror in the entryway to the bold colour palette that pervades the space, every element of this 2,680-square-foot home in Bengaluru’s Peninsula Heights exudes a sense of energy and personality.

The client, a young couple with two children under the age of 5, had a clear brief – they wanted a home that would be a stark contrast to their previous all-white abode, opting instead for a vibrant, lively environment that would embrace the dynamic nature of their family life. Jouhari and her team at 5Ft. Apart rose to the challenge, crafting a modern, contemporary home that seamlessly integrates a mix of bold colors, striking prints, and thoughtful design elements.

As one embarks on a virtual tour of the space, the design choices come alive. The powder room, for instance, features a striking black-and-white tile pattern that echoes the tones of the entryway’s shoe cabinet, while the adjacent living and dining areas showcase a harmonious blend of hues. In the living room, a television takes pride of place on the right wall, while on the left, a blue-accented dining area with an eight-seater table and an overhead chandelier sets the tone for convivial gatherings.

The kitchen, one of the home’s standout features, showcases 5Ft. Apart’s design prowess. Defying the notion that dark colors can make a space feel closed off, the team opted for a bold, black backsplash and contrasting oak laminate, creating a striking and modern aesthetic. A glass partition allows for flexibility, enabling the kitchen to be open or closed off as needed.

Venture down the hallway, and the home’s private spaces come into focus. The blue-hued study, with its cozy ambiance enhanced by dark-hued beams, is a dedicated workspace for the husband, who works from home. The master bedroom, in contrast, embraces a more serene palette, featuring a two-toned wall texture behind the rust-colored bed and bronze and clear mirrors with black accents.

The children’s room, with its pastel-toned palette and custom-designed study table that can be rotated for interactive play, exudes a sense of whimsy and fun. Meanwhile, the guest room, with its sage green accents and tropical wallpaper on the wardrobe, introduces a natural element to the otherwise urban-centric home.

Throughout the apartment, Jouhari and her team have skillfully navigated the balance between bold, vibrant public spaces and more subdued private sanctuaries. The result is a cohesive and harmonious home that celebrates the clients’ vibrant lifestyle while providing moments of calm and respite.

“For us, designing a house is always a collaborative process,” explains Jouhari. “This project was led by the couple’s desire to have spaces reflecting their own personality, and we made that our priority, creating a colourful and dynamic home that truly embodies their unique identity.”

With its playful mix of prints, colours, and materials, this stunning apartment designed by 5Ft. Apart is a testament to the power of design to transform a space into a reflection of its inhabitants’ spirit and joie de vivre.
