The owner’s brief for this 2,071 sq ft Mumbai home was clear from the outset: they wanted a home that exuded subtlety, particularly through the careful use of colour tones. Their preference was for soft, neutral shades, with a focus on beige. With this vision in mind, Principal Designer Kaushal Nisar and Senior Architect and Interior Designer Vishwa Nisar of Kayvee Designs focused on introducing a limited splash of colour in selected spaces, ensuring the overall aesthetic remained understated and refined.
A Soft Approach to Design
Staying true to the brief, the design team adopted a soft and gentle approach across all aspects of the design—materials, fabrics, and overall aesthetics. The goal was to create a space that felt calming and welcoming, with design elements that supported this vision. To achieve this, curves and fluid, flowing lines were embraced throughout the home. Arches, in particular, became the central design element, helping create smooth transitions between spaces and contributing to the tranquil atmosphere.
Curves and Arches: A Design Language
Curves became a defining feature of the home’s design. The team sought to incorporate them wherever possible, ensuring a cohesive, subtle look. The living room ceiling was gently curved, adding an organic flow to the space. In the parents’ bedroom, the wardrobe featured rounded corners, moving away from harsh, straight lines. Even the kids’ bedroom bed was designed with curved edges, further reinforcing the gentle, soft aesthetic.
Arches were woven throughout the design as a central motif. They were utilised in various ways in almost every room, offering a sense of unity and flow. Whether in doorways, windows, or other architectural details, arches helped create a connection between spaces, enhancing the home’s serene, timeless feel.
Flowing Lines and Organic Textures
Along with the curves, flowing lines were incorporated into key areas of the home, particularly in the living and bedroom spaces. One striking feature was the back wall of one of the bedrooms, where sandstone was used to create soft, flowing shapes. This technique, along with subtle variations in the stone’s texture, brought a dynamic yet calming energy to the room. The design was further elevated by the use of levels, adding depth and movement while maintaining the home’s tranquil ambiance.
The colour palette throughout the house was carefully selected to align with the owner’s desire for a soft, neutral aesthetic. Beige tones were integrated into each space, ensuring the colour scheme remained gentle and cohesive. Bold or contrasting colours were intentionally avoided, as the owner preferred a unified and peaceful environment. This consistency extended to the design elements as well, maintaining a smooth flow that connected each room without disrupting the overall harmony.
A significant challenge during this project was ensuring that the artwork chosen complemented the design vision. The team had to carefully curate art pieces that aligned with the home’s tranquil, neutral theme while also introducing subtle breaks in the design.

Designing this home was a rewarding process. The opportunity to explore a single design element—the arch—in so many ways allowed the design team to experiment with curves, flowing lines and textures, while still maintaining a sense of balance across the spaces. This creative challenge pushed the boundaries of traditional design, resulting in a home that feels both modern and timeless.
Each space flows effortlessly into the next, with careful attention to detail and a consistent design language. The use of arches, soft curves, and a muted colour palette has resulted in a peaceful sanctuary, creating a home that the owners will enjoy for years to come.
