Material Palette: Air India briefcase, vintage mirrors, scrap metal flowers, brass edgings, and spray paint.

THE CONCEPT: Carnations, poppies, roses, and tulips intricately packed into A Brief Case of Babur – a homage to the many lives of Babur. His many lives – a prince without a land, a naturalist, a writer, a lover – all fit neatly, not in a square box but in a vintage suitcase, easily carried but hard to close.

INSPIRATION: Rooted in the Charbagh of Mughals, the creation draws inspiration from gardens as spaces for leisure, pleasure, poetry, and politics.

CRAFT HIGHLIGHT: The narrative richness and sustainability threaded into the vintage suitcase, carrying a profound story through each element.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER: Led by Ritu and Surya Singh, whose entire art practice is based on working with scrap, discards, and waste materials. They dream up spaces connected to the earth and engage in storytelling through ephemeral experiences inspired from our own lands.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: Chatterjee believes in the power of stories, especially those emanating from India. Fair pricing is a core ethos at the heart of BARO MARKET.

WOLF SAYS: “Making our way through Charbagh gardens: dissecting them, deconstructing them, and dreaming within them – we strive for a peaceful coexistence. The gardens were brought by the Mughals as secured spaces for leisure, pleasure, poetry and politics; we too use its beauty to retell their stories.
