The Design Domain expertly blends clean contemporary elements with ethnic touches in this Mumbai home

In the heart of bustling Mumbai, The Design Domain, led by the creative duo Anas Ishke and Noorain Khan, has transformed a compact, light-filled apartment into an elegant haven that seamlessly marries contemporary aesthetics with ethnic sensibilities. The clients, longtime residents of the vibrant city, envisioned a home that embodied openness, brightness, and a fluid connectivity between spaces. The result is a masterpiece that not only reflects the designers’ vision but also encapsulates the unique spirit of its inhabitants.

Upon first glance, The Design Domain sought to create a space that prioritizes free movement and smooth transitions. The task was to breathe life into a bare shell and transform it into a sophisticated abode for the clients’ parents. The design scheme expertly blends clean contemporary elements with ethnic touches, establishing a harmonious coexistence of varied styles.

Guided by the principle of maintaining a clean and light aesthetic, The Design Domain introduced minimal furniture and storage modules at eye level, ensuring unobstructed views and a sense of openness. Sleek consoles, softened corners, and muted tones further contribute to the seamless flow of space throughout the home.

The journey through this thoughtfully designed residence begins at the entrance, where a theme is established, setting the tone for a humble yet graceful setting. The living room, hosting an intimate setup, effortlessly unfolds into the dining area. Elegance is translated through subdued tones, textures, and meticulous detailing, aided by minimized partitions that contribute to a more integrated space.

The kitchen, envisioned as a captivating backdrop, features a deep teal blue that adds a touch of vibrancy to the neutral tones. Ethnic influences are delicately woven into the space, evident in soft mouldings on the kitchen shutters adorned with brass handles. The open-plan concept is balanced with sliders that, when opened, introduce brushed brass tones and fluted glass, providing both connectivity and privacy.

Moving through the residence, nuanced details and a carefully curated material palette tell a tale of collaboration between The Design Domain and the client, who, with a background in set designing, brought a unique vision to the project. This collaboration resulted in a home that strikes a perfect balance between careful curation and functional design.

The guest bedroom, concealed behind a thoughtfully designed passage, exudes calmness with understated patterns and hand-carved four-poster bed. On the other end, the master bedroom becomes a subdued oasis with lighter tones and impactful wallpaper, cleverly hiding a dressing area behind discreet shelves.

The Design Domain has successfully created a space that not only showcases evolving aesthetics but also radiates a profound sense of home unique to its residents. With a soft vocabulary that speaks volumes, this Mumbai home stands as a testament to the artful fusion of contemporary design and timeless elegance.
