Studio Dashline designs a rooftop restro-bar in Jalandhar that is notorious for its shifting moods

Notorious for its dark and almost mysterious interiors (it’s just a part), this 12,000 sq. ft. restro-bar in Jalandhar caters to every mood. And hey, it’s not just me saying it—the place is named “Notorious” too! Designed by Studio Dashline, this space holds special significance for both the city and its owners, who are stepping into the hospitality business for the first time.

“The brief was as intriguing as it was challenging—the desire to incorporate two contrasting worlds into one cohesive space,” says the team at Studio Dashline. One side boasts a dark and spooky ambiance, while the other opens onto a green, light-filled outdoor space.

As one ascends to the open rooftop, long seating benches adorned with highlighters, granite tables featuring intricate groove details, and solid rustic pastel cutlery set the stage for a visual feast.

The restaurant centers around three unique cabanas embraced by lush landscapes, vertical gardens, and serene water bodies. Breaking the spatial flow of these cabanas, a private dining area and an outdoor bar feature vaulted arches and intricate brass shelving details. Above the bar, a brass skylight softly illuminates the atmosphere. Walkways shaded with jute fabric connect these areas.

Architectural elements come to life with metal members, and hut-shaped cabanas feature glass cutouts, offering space for light to play within. Notorious becomes a visual masterpiece where every corner holds a piece of botanical allure.

Tucked away behind a cleverly disguised artwork-framed door at the opposite end, one will find the speakeasy—a dramatic shift. It is dark, mysterious and intriguing. Brass finishes, handmade tiles, marble inlay flooring and intricate details mark up the shell. Over your heads, the vaulted ceilings with linear tube lights take charge, while on the floors, the plush tan leather sofas and patterned green upholstery chairs won’t let one step out of the zone even once.

Be it the dark indoors or the artsy outdoors, Notorious is bold in every way. And come on, it’s not always that you get a buffet of moods to choose from.
