A space with multiple hyphens: district150 by greymatters in Hyderabad is high on industrial design

Inspired by factories and manufacturing, industrial design is no longer confined to industrial settings. A prime illustration of this evolution is The Quorum’s district150, crafted by greymatters. Nestled in the bustling city of Hyderabad, this space comes with multiple hyphens. It is a work space by the day and a cultural getaway at night.

Upon entering district150, visitors are greeted by the inviting ambiance of Zila, an Indian restaurant radiating contemporary charm. The space emanates warmth, with chic industrial design elements and earthy aesthetics beckoning guests to unwind and indulge in culinary delights amidst lush greenery.

Adjacent to Zila, Subko Café tantalizes the senses with the aroma of freshly roasted beans and artisanal pastries. Here, every detail of the interior design speaks volumes of craftsmanship and attention to detail, creating a haven for guests to relax and savour.

A true marvel awaits between these culinary hubs—The Stage. Ascending the spiral staircase beneath a grand chandelier, guests are ushered into the splendor of an opera-style theater, complete with tiered seating and double-volume ceilings. This hidden gem promises an intimate and theatrical experience for various events.

The corridors reveal multicoloured chiseled-stone cladding, crafted by local artisans. The Dunbar Room, with its design and pillar-less layout, stands poised to host gatherings of any scale, embodying the ethos of district150 as a hub for connection and community.

The Cove provides an event space with panoramic views, while The Grid and Pod serve as dynamic content creation zones, buzzing with creativity and innovation. Every facet of district150 is meticulously designed to inspire collaboration and productivity, rendering it the preferred venue for meetings and events of all kinds.

Exposed brickwork, black metal structures, and concrete-looking floors add visual intrigue, while vibrant pops of colour and bold graphics infuse energy and personality into the space.

Carefully curated colour palettes strike a balance between neutral tones, industrial accents, vibrant hues and soft pastels, crafting a harmonious environment that appeals to the senses. Sustainability features such as LED lighting and the use of sustainable materials underscore district150’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

“The project integrates sustainability by prioritising energy efficiency with LED lighting and natural light, conserving water with low-flow fixtures, and utilizing sustainable materials like natural wood, rattan, and locally sourced stones” says Alan Barr, Founder and Creative Director at greymatters.

District150 reimagines traditional workspaces and event venues, offering a versatile canvas for collaboration, creativity and connection.
