Located in Bengaluru’s lively Indiranagar, SOKA Bar isn’t your average cocktail spot, it’s an immersive experience. Designed by a budding architecture practice called NNAD Studio visioned by Nayanika Natesh and Chinmay Polepalli, entering this space feels like stepping into a compelling tale. The space is a story of growth, shaped by Avinash Kapoli, the outgoing mixologist, and Sombir Choudhary, the contemplative chef, as they embark on a shared journey.
Inspiration blooms
The very essence of SOKA, which is named after the Asoka tree symbolising growth and transformation, is woven into its design. Its contrasting colours like mustard yellow, representing Avinash’s exuberance, and dark brown/black, reflecting Sombir’s quiet intensity create a visually captivating dance. Wood, in various shades, signifies the clients’ continuous evolution, while the steel grey Lapotra granite floor adds a touch of modern elegance.
A journey through design
Furniture heights playfully vary, mirroring the clients’ rising success and career graphs. The glare free effect from the custom designed ENDO Light fixtures having a 10 degree beam angle highlights only the table bringing out the true vibrant colors of the cocktail & food served becoming a form of art by itself. This isn’t just about illumination, it’s about creating an intimate, conversation-sparking atmosphere.
Quirky details, big impact
Step closer, and see the true magic of SOKA unfold! Ceramic diyas play along the textured mustard walls, contrasting with dark brown fluted panels. Mirrors on opposite walls create an illusion of endless space, while intricate terracotta art whispers stories on the walls. A giant cocoon, suspended in the center by artist Siddharth Kerkar, becomes the focal point, a symbol of continuous transformation. A gentle touch of greenery adds a touch of life, further contributing to the organic aura of the space.
Functionality meets uniqueness
Every element in SOKA serves a purpose. The MDF fluted panels finished with DUCO, add depth and texture. Chiseled walls offer a rugged feel, while the copper bar front adds a touch of artistic flair. State-of-the-art bathrooms boast designer fittings, and even the smoking area, nestled beside the entrance, is a haven of greenery and quirky face masks.
A space for everyone
SOKA is divided into distinct zones, each catering to different moods. The bar area, with its floating shelves showcasing illuminated bottles and rotating heads made of natural elements, exudes energy. The seating area, with its diverse table sizes and shapes, encourages interaction and comfort. The dim lighting and burnt orange fabric sofas create a cosy haven for intimate conversations.
Sustainability with a twist
Sustainability here isn’t just a trend, it’s an integral part of SOKA’s story. The copper art installation, the hanging cocoon, and the terracotta art are all crafted with natural materials like beaten copper, rice paper, and such others. Even the facade, adorned with textured acrylic putty and lush green planters, reflects a commitment to eco-friendly design.
