Though the house is a compact residential space in the densely populated city of Kolkata, AB Design has managed to create a cozy and functional abode for their client. Without a specific brief from the homeowners, Aanchhal Bhuwalka drew upon her expertise and the clients’ trust in her signature modern-contemporary style to craft an appealing and clutter-free living environment.
Transcending the uninspiring views typical of high-rise housing complexes, Aanchhal turned her focus inward, curating eye-catching nooks and vignettes throughout the home. Neutral tones dominate the common areas, with pops of color introduced through a bold wallpaper feature and a striking chandelier in the dining room. To accommodate the requirement for a mandir, Aanchhal thoughtfully integrated it into the design, ensuring adherence to vastu principles while seamlessly blending it into the dining area’s aesthetic.
Personal spaces received special attention, each bedroom tailored to the occupant’s age and taste. The parents’ room exudes classical elegance, while the daughter’s room embraces vibrant hues befitting her youthful spirit. The master suite, however, steals the show with its dramatic sleeping quarters, featuring a grand, end-to-end headboard that extends a luxurious ambiance into the adjoining master bathroom.
Overcoming the challenge of a compact kitchen, Aanchhal cleverly borrowed space from the living area. Ceramic shutters, easy-to-maintain finishes, and a neutral color palette contribute to an airy, breathable cooking zone, complemented by quartz countertops that elevate the overall aesthetic.
Throughout the home, carefully curated materials – marble, quartz, ceramic, and more – are subtly highlighted by spectacular light fittings, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere within the compact footprint. AB Design has masterfully proven that thoughtful design can transform even the smallest of spaces into a comfortable and visually pleasing sanctuary.
