Who said pastels are just for summers? This Mumbai home by kaviar:collaborative proves that this palette could work all year round. Christened “Midsommer,” this home is an attempt to capture a slice of summer despite the limitations that come with staying in a metro city.
Vivid summer colours, along with textures of brick, marble and wood, flourish in the apartment, exuding energy that resonates with the diverse personalities of its residents—a family spanning three generations.
The doors open to textured white bricks. It hosts a floating wooden bench complemented by a full-length mint green metal mesh shoe storage unit that transitions into a TV ledge.
Opposite the bench, a mint green colour-blocked dining bench with a white powder-coated window leads the gaze into the kitchen, which features green backsplashes echoing the living and dining area’s color scheme. The dining setup includes a Panda marble table adding playfulness to the space. Nearby, a custom artwork in grey adorns the wall behind a rust-colored sofa.
Passing through a white metal door from the living area, one enters the passage where the kitchen, designed with wooden under-counter and sleek metal cabinets, stands on the right. Opposite it lies the daughter’s room, a charming space dominated by mint green, white and dusty pink hues. Circular motifs accentuate the design, with a cleverly integrated alcove bed that expands for sleepovers, maximizing play space.
Adjacent is the grandparents’ room, featuring serene blue and cane cabinetry that blends elegance with comfort. A wicker bed back and wardrobe inserts add a touch of natural texture, creating a soothing retreat.

Further down the passage, the master bedroom beckons with a folding study table and shelves, set against a backdrop of white textured bricks. A floating green bed back and window seating with wooden storage solutions highlight the room’s versatility and functionality, ideal for relaxation and hosting.
“The theme was to create a house which was fun, warm and had a lot of storage space without making the space look small and cramped” says the team at kaviar:collaborative.
The project’s genesis was rooted in the family’s desire for a vibrant, energy-infused home that accommodates three generations’ diverse lifestyles. Each space within the home is tailored to reflect individual personalities while maintaining a cohesive design ethos of warmth and functionality.
Key design elements include the use of white brick walls for rustic charm, metal mesh for visual interest and airflow management, and a variety of cabinetry styles from green and blue to pink and wood finishes. These choices not only enhance aesthetics but also fulfill practical storage needs across different rooms.
The colour palette predominantly features shades of green complemented by neutrals and oak wood accents. This balanced approach ensures each room feels cohesive yet distinct, resonating with the family’s vibrant spirit while maintaining visual harmony.
While sustainability features were not explicitly highlighted, the design’s thoughtful integration of multifunctional furniture and storage solutions contributes to efficient space utilisation and longevity. Challenges such as integrating storage solutions discreetly were overcome through innovative design approaches, such as loft storage in overlooked spaces and concealed compartments within furniture.
Midsommer is more than just a residence; it’s a celebration of family dynamics and personal expression through design.
