A mediterranean twist on the oceanic shores of Goa by Beyond Designs

“We are proud maximalists and rarely think in terms of spare and minimal. But for this 8,000 sq ft beach house in Goa, we chose to let the expansive feeling of the sea take over, without veering excessively from our signature style,” say Sachin and Neha Gupta of Beyond Designs about this Mediterranean home on the coast of Coco Beach.

It has all that one would have probably forecasted in these few seconds of reading. Pastel layout, majorly blue—check. Majestic view of the sea—check. Patterns and texture weaved into the decor—check. Originally designed as a typical city home, the four storey villa underwent a significant redesign to reflect a Goan Portuguese flavor. The process, which took nine months, faced challenges due to frequent rain and high humidity but ultimately delivered interiors that delighted the homeowners.

A standout feature of the bungalow is its stilted structure. Part of this stilt area was utilised to create a dining room, bar lounge and courtyard. Surrounded by greens and furnished with classic contemporary pieces, the bar lounge includes a leather bar cabinet from Trunks Company. Custom-made furniture, accessories and lighting from Beyond Designs, along with carpets from The Carpet Cellar, contribute to an interior that blends exquisitely crafted furniture, unique fabric prints and a European flair. The predominant white base is amplified with textures.

The home’s layout maximises the azure sea views. On the lowest level, two sea-facing bedrooms, decorated in white and blue, open onto balconies with private outdoor bathtubs, surrounded by a canopy of tree branches and greenery for added privacy.

Above, a voluminous double-height formal living room features a striking carved wood panel as a focal wall. Light-coloured furnishings and a blue-and-white mosaic stone coffee table infuse the space with nautical freshness. Adjacent to this area is a timber mezzanine designed as a play area for children, complete with a spiral staircase.

The homeowners’ suite, painted in a calming blue and furnished with a four-poster bed, includes ornate wooden-framed mirrors paired with modern white nightstands. The ensuite bathroom is highlighted by a striped pattern crafted from local pink and white stones.

One level up, a bedroom with a cosy lounge area and an attached bathroom opens onto a balcony. The top floor features a wooden deck for panoramic sea views and an infinity pool that sort of blends into the ocean.

Connecting all four storeys is a zesty mustard orange staircase. Throughout the home, family photographs and artworks adorn the walls—some custom-designed by Beyond Designs, others selected by the homeowners from their travels abroad.
