When AI Joins the Party—Kirti Dodeja transforms this Delhi duplex into a sophisticated entertainment haven

For a young Delhi-based couple—a lawyer and a Microsoft UI/UX designer—their dream of an extended living space came with an unexpected twist—an AI-assisted masterpiece that would become the talking point of their new party pad. Interior architect Kirti Dodeja took this unique opportunity to challenge the ongoing AI versus human creativity debate, creating a space that doesn’t just accommodate entertainment but celebrates the fusion of traditional design and cutting-edge technology. Aptly named ‘The Party Pad’, every corner here is crafted for leisure, hosting, and style. From bold design choices to thoughtful spatial planning, the project reflects a perfect synergy of the couple’s lifestyle and Kirti’s innovative approach to design.

A Home Away From Home

The project began when the couple acquired a duplex apartment across the corridor from their existing residence in Delhi NCR. Their vision was clear—create a sophisticated extension of their home that could serve as both an entertainment hub and a private retreat. “The idea was to expand the home’s capacity for enjoyment, socializing, and relaxing,” explains Kirti.

The lower floor features common areas designed for socialising. A semi-open dining area, dubbed the “Jewel Box,” stands out with its deep Parisian red walls, brass accents, and a honey-colored onyx dining table. Adjacent to this space are a living room, a dedicated coffee counter, and a breakfast bar. A guest room with an ensuite bathroom and private balcony completes the floor, offering a cozy retreat for overnight visitors.

The upper floor caters to private leisure and work. The lawyer husband’s office includes a reading nook for his wife, while a lounge area boasts a custom tan leather sofa, a high-end entertainment system, and a bay window overlooking the terrace. The terrace itself is a showstopper, featuring a green marble bar, a Versailles-patterned floor, and an engineered wood pergola with hanging lights—perfect for sundowners or intimate gatherings.

Where Technology Meets Tradition

The project’s most striking feature emerges at the staircase landing—an 8 by 5 feet artwork that represents a groundbreaking collaboration between AI and human creativity. Faced with time constraints and the challenge of creating a piece that would satisfy both the wife’s contemporary tastes and the husband’s traditional preferences, Kirti turned to AI as a solution.

“With so much dialogue around AI and its effects on the creative industry, we wanted to use it in our favor,” she explains. Using Midjourney AI, the team generated initial concepts that were then refined and reconstructed by their in-house graphics team. The result? A whimsical interpretation of classical European frescoes where angels hold champagne glasses, surrounded by lush foliage—a perfect embodiment of the space’s party-ready spirit.

Sophisticated Spaces, Thoughtful Details

Throughout the space, Dodeja’s attention to detail shines through in the material selections. Local Indian marbles, ceramic tiles, handmade tiles, wood, brass, and glass create a rich tapestry of textures. The colour palette maintains a neutral base, punctuated by bold choices like the dining room’s deep red and strategic uses of pastel tones in spaces like the powder room.

A New Category of Living

“We loved creating a space unique to its category—’The Party Pad’—a new typology of spaces that we have introduced through this project,” says Kirti. The success of this vision is evident in the ongoing enthusiasm of her clients, who continue to share photos of their celebrations in various corners of the home months after completion.

This project not only represents a successful marriage of traditional interior design with modern technology but also suggests a new way forward for the industry. As AI continues to evolve, Kirti’s innovative approach demonstrates how designers can embrace these tools while maintaining the human touch that makes spaces truly special. In doing so, she has created a blueprint for the future of interior design.
