A neutral colour palette, dominated by earthy tones and splashes of muted greens and coral sets the stage for a tranquil yet sophisticated ambiance in this Indore home titled ‘The Coral House’ crafted by Pranjal Agrawal Design Studio. The interiors of this residence are created to emanate harmony between functionality and aesthetics.
Creating an elegant and practical home that reflects contemporary ideas without compromising on the essence of warmth with a refreshing blend of heritage and modern, the spaces seamlessly flow into each other, while the individual character of each is retained with open space planning including pockets of natural light.
The assignment given to the design team was to create a functional residence with abundant storage, characterized by a minimal, warm, and comfortable aesthetic. The floor plan encompasses a formal drawing room, living and dining spaces, a small courtyard as a distinctive and inviting feature, the kitchen, and the master bedroom. The decision was made to forgo false ceilings in order to preserve the sense of height within the limited space.
In addressing the challenge of maximizing storage in smaller areas, custom solutions were implemented. The spatial arrangement skillfully balances open, airy spaces with cozy corners, fostering an intentional flow between rooms that ensures an uninterrupted journey through the home. Each carefully selected piece of furniture contributes to the ideal fusion of form and function. Examples include plush, minimalist sofas in the living room and a bespoke dining table crafted from sustainably sourced wood accompanied by cane chairs, embodying the essence of modern luxury.
The design concept draws inspiration from the subtle beauty of nature, integrating organic elements seamlessly with sleek modernity. The color palette, predominantly composed of earthy tones with splashes of coral, further enhances the overall aesthetic. The drawing room takes center stage, featuring a custom-made mirrored rotating partition that imparts an elaborate look. Sumptuous textures and a thoughtfully curated color palette converge in a harmonious symphony.
The kitchen, characterized by bright, bold, and beautiful elements, incorporates lush green and whites with ample storage as per the client’s specifications. Floor-to-ceiling storage, abundant natural light, a quartz kitchen countertop, black matte hardware, pine shelves, and a quartz sink contribute to a refined atmosphere. The two-tone gallery kitchen with a checkered backsplash adds contrasting harmony, while wicker baskets enhance both the beauty and utility of the space.
During the design process, overcoming spatial limitations and adhering to budget constraints posed primary challenges, particularly in confined areas like the kitchen and master bedroom. The design team addressed these challenges by custom-designing multifunctional furniture, ensuring a seamless blend of style and practicality.
The centrally located courtyard, visible from various rooms, establishes a connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. Despite its limited size, the courtyard is thoughtfully designed to maximize its potential, offering a charming and functional outdoor retreat. The courtyard, overlooking the living and dining spaces, stands out as a favorite aspect of the design.
In the bedroom, wooden flooring and coral cushioned back paneling create a striking feature, complemented by white walls and a dresser with clever storage pockets according to the client’s preferences. Decorative surface lights, including stylish pendant lights and chandeliers, serve as focal points, contributing to the overall design aesthetic and functioning as art pieces in their own right.
The Coral House transcends mere habitation, emerging as a meticulously orchestrated symphony of design elements. Through the interplay of textures, the discerning use of color, and the infusion of personal touches, the residence becomes a haven where daily life transforms into an artful experience. Each room tells a story of comfort, elegance, and the beauty of intentional design.
