Inside the canvas: This home by Shape A Story in Noida is a perfect picture book escape

A home should be more than just a shelter; it should be a sanctuary that reflects who we are, offers solace from the outside world, and serves as a canvas for our personal tastes and experiences. It’s a place where every corner tells a story and every design choice resonates with the unique rhythm of its inhabitants. This philosophy comes to life in this Noida home by Akanksha Mukerjee, Founder and Principal Designer at Shape A Story.

As you step into this thoughtfully designed home, you’re immediately greeted by a long, narrow corridor that functions as the connective tissue of the residence. This passageway, with its sleek and purposeful design, links the various spaces, guiding you through the heart of the home.

To your left, near the entrance, lies the guest room, adorned with bold red wallpaper that sets a dramatic tone for visitors. This vibrant introduction is a prelude to the diverse experiences that await as you move deeper into the home. The central open area that follows encompasses the living and dining spaces, where contemporary design takes center stage. Here, grey and blue tones dominate, creating a serene yet stylish atmosphere. The grey coarse texture paint on the walls is offset by a deep blue crockery cabinet, and blue Ikat fabric on the dining chairs and a bench adds a splash of color and texture.

Continuing through this open space, you find yourself in the family lounge, a cozy haven designed for relaxation and warmth. Beige pitted effect texture paint provides a subtle backdrop for a West Elm couch and a Naga table from Sarita Handa. The lounge features a reading nook with an Ikat fabric Diwan and wooden live edge shelves, making it a perfect spot for unwinding with family. Personal touches, like framed family photos, infuse this space with a sense of intimacy and belonging.

Further down the corridor, the Master bedroom awaits, embodying tranquility and comfort. The room features custom-made white solid wood and cane furniture, including a bed and side tables, all set against a calming green panelled wall. Textural elements such as a Suzani rug and floral-patterned chairs complement the white-on-white curtains, creating a serene environment. The beige marble flooring and a flat false ceiling ensure that the focus remains on the elegant furnishings and the embroidered wall art from Hatsu.

The guest room, located near the end of the corridor, makes a striking impression with its Coral-toned Charbagh Good Earth wallpaper and deep green poster bed, offering a luxurious and inviting space for visitors.

One of the most enchanting spaces in the home is the kid’s room, which captures a nautical theme with vibrant blue hues. Custom-designed features, such as a Sailor bed and a world map wallpaper from Life n Colors, transform the room into a whimsical maritime adventure. Fun elements like colorful climbing bars and a hot air balloon wall light from Mother Gone Mad further enhance the playful atmosphere. The desk and wardrobe in muted blue and grey tones balance functionality with the room’s imaginative theme.

Throughout the residence, a carefully curated color palette of grey, blue, and beige ties the spaces together. Grey serves as a neutral backdrop, allowing other colors and patterns to shine. The blue tones, especially in the Ikat fabric and art pieces, add visual interest and cohesion. Each room showcases its own character while maintaining a harmonious flow throughout the home.

The design of this residence is a testament to the importance of personal touch in creating a home. It reflects a blend of functionality and aesthetic appeal, tailored to meet the needs and preferences of its occupants. While sustainability was not a focus in this project, the thoughtful design and customization of each space highlight the firm’s commitment to creating personalized and narrative-driven environments.

In the end, this home can truly become a personal retreat. Every detail, from the textures and fabrics to the carefully chosen art pieces, contributes to a living space that is both functional and deeply reflective of its owners’ lives and passions.
