This Hyderabad home by Urban Zen resonates with the family’s passion for art and heritage

With a deft touch of contemporary design, Urban Zen has transformed a sprawling 6,500 sq. ft abode in Hyderabad into a serene haven. Designed by Rohit Suraj (Founder and CEO at Urban Zen) the residence resonates with the homeowners’ deep affinity for art and heritage. This family of six sought a home that would honour their cultural roots while accommodating their urban lifestyle, resulting in a fusion of Indian elements and modern design principles across every room.

The ground floor is divided into functional zones: a formal living room, guest bedroom and entertainment area, while the main living spaces like the informal living room, kitchen, dining area and master bedroom are located on the first floor. Entering through the rear, visitors are greeted by a fusion of modern and rustic elements, highlighted by a solid wooden door flanked by expansive windows that usher in natural light.

Inside, the living area immediately draws attention with its colour scheme. Neutral-toned sofas are paired with vibrant orange chairs that add a dynamic flair. The interplay of textures—from soft fabric upholstery to sleek stone accents and warm wooden details—creates a mood bathed in natural light. Pillows with geometric patterns by Sarita Handa punctuate the room’s aesthetic, alongside contemporary wooden bird sculptures that enhance its modern charm.

A chic bar area beckons for relaxation, while the guest bedroom with its serene palette of greys and beiges is accented by minimalist décor and ample natural light.

The first floor caters to essential home functions, offering a sophisticated informal living room adorned with warm tones and sleek furnishings. A large L-shaped leather sofa and striking orange lounge chairs anchor the space, complemented by thoughtful design elements like wooden ceiling panels and soft curtains that contribute to its inviting atmosphere.

In the master bedroom, there is a textured feature wall behind the bed. The neutral curtains allow soft light to filter through and create a serene retreat ideal for refreshing nap.

The second floor serves as a peaceful sanctuary with personal spaces including a children’s room, parent’s room, and an open terrace. The children’s bedroom delights with its bright colors and playful design, featuring a custom loft bed and whimsical mural that sparks imagination. The parent’s room, characterized by its simple blend of white walls and natural wood accents, offers a serene environment for rejuvenation.

Each space within this Hyderabad home by Urban Zen is curated to reflect the family’s heritage while embracing the comforts of contemporary living.
