A hybrid workspace by No Name Works in Pune adopts neighbourhood’s industrial design

In the heart of Pune’s bustling industrial zone, the new headquarters of Solid Screen by No Name Works is high both on design and function. This facility, dedicated to the sales of high precision machinery and tools, is strategically located on a prominent apex road, setting itself apart amidst urban clutter and visual chaos.

The architectural design philosophy of the headquarters revolves around achieving both aesthetic coherence and functional performance. In response to its industrial surroundings, the building features a striking metal screen façade. This facade not only embodies the identity of the business but also creates a sense of organised dynamism. It serves as a visual anchor, projecting solidity and reliability for both the area and the company it houses.

The choice of earthy browns in the colour scheme contrasts with the prevalent industrial greys, offering a grounded appeal that requires minimal maintenance in the dusty environment. This thoughtful design element not only enhances the building’s aesthetics but also aligns with practical considerations of sustainability and upkeep.

Beyond its visual impact, the metal screen facade serves multiple functional purposes. It promotes air circulation, reducing reliance on air conditioning systems, and maximises natural daylight within the interiors while mitigating street noise. By softly delineating boundaries between inside and outside, it enhances privacy without sacrificing openness, fostering a balanced and productive work environment.

The building’s construction integrates a site-specific fitting system that optimises the use of existing industry technologies and skills. Modular metal sheets are strategically aligned to maximise natural light and airflow across the building, minimising wastage in both material and energy. This modular approach not only ensures precision in design and construction but also allows for future dismantling and repurposing, reflecting a commitment to long-term sustainability.

Designed to consolidate all operational aspects under one roof—from retail spaces to warehouses and overseas sales—the headquarters features adaptable open-plan layouts. This flexibility promotes a collaborative work environment, enhanced by strategically placed openings that visually expand the space and encourage interaction among different departments.

The interior spaces of the corporate office reflect an industrial, functional minimalism characterised by soft brutalism. A palette of soft birch finishes complemented by steel panels and organic furniture elements creates a cohesive backdrop for business operations. Glass partitions and an open layout further amplify the interconnectedness of spaces, fostering a cohesive and collaborative workspace.

The corporate lobby sets a formal tone with its austere monochromatic design, while a fluid ceiling design guides movement through transitional spaces. Each functional area within the office is defined by grounding elements—such as the wave table in the director’s office or the grow table in the conference room—creating spaces that balance minimalism with organic comfort.

From its metal screen facade to its adaptable interior spaces, every aspect of the building reflects a thoughtful integration of aesthetics, functionality and sustainability, setting a new standard within its industrial context. As the business evolves, this headquarters is poised to adapt and grow, remaining a cornerstone of efficiency and innovation in its field.
