An Indore home by Atelier |X| Architects that speaks in shapes and shades

This expansive 8,000 sq. ft. home dubbed Liminal unveils an aesthetic woven from modern chic and artistic refinement. Designed by Atelier |X| Architects, every room reveals itself as a vignette, with each space meticulously curated to evoke an ambiance of artful rejuvenation, bridging the pulse of energy with moments of quietude.

Heart of the home

The journey begins in the living area—a bold fusion of blue and yellow that greets visitors with the vibrancy of a fresh morning brew. Bursting with life and intensity, this space makes a striking first impression, setting the tone for a home that speaks in hues and feels like a narrative in itself. The vivid palette here mirrors the lively exchanges the family cherishes, with design elements that feel both invigorating and inviting.

A gentle descent

Transitioning into the living area is akin to stepping into a serene haven. Here, earthy browns and deep maroons envelop the room, creating an atmosphere that cocoons one in a warm afternoon glow. The equilibrium of colors and textures summons relaxation, giving the space a grounded sensibility—an intentional nod to both modernity and the abiding comfort of natural tones.

Evening charisma

The Lounge is a scene-stealer with its black-and-white palette punctuated by vibrant yellows—a sophisticated space that morphs effortlessly into a chic evening retreat. From here, the journey unfolds onto the Terrace Lounge, where wood and natural elements transform this outdoor haven into a rustic, grounding reprieve. The Terrace Lounge is, undeniably, the designer’s cherished space—a refuge that marries warmth with openness, offering a tactile, earthy experience under open skies.

Intimate corners

Each bedroom is crafted as a distinct color-coded sanctuary, tailored to mirror the personalities and preferences of its inhabitants. The three Kids’ Bedrooms take an imaginative approach, with palettes evolving from playful pastels to a more mature olive green, capturing the ever-changing sensibilities of the children. Meanwhile, the Parent’s and Grandparent’s Rooms are wrapped in luxurious yet understated tones, combining warm wood and sleek metal accents for a refined, restful environment. The Guest Bedroom, however, stands as a vivacious counterpoint, infusing bold yellow and tan with sharp black details—an energetic, welcoming contrast to the quieter rooms.

The concept

The client’s brief emphasised individuality—a vision that posed an exciting challenge, as each space needed its own character while retaining a visual kinship with the overall design. The team at Atelier |X| Architects took on this challenge by reimagining each room as a unique “threshold” of experience, curating a visual journey where every space holds its own identity yet contributes to the collective aesthetic.

Geometry in flow

Liminal thrives on a rhythmic geometry that directs the eye and adds depth to each room. The color palette—a calming symphony of oceanic blues and subtle greys—acts as the home’s steady heartbeat, punctuated by vivid accents that give each space a distinct flair. These color choices, combined with geometrically-inspired layouts, evoke both fervor and respite, embodying the idea of ‘liminality’ where spaces pivot seamlessly from one atmosphere to another.

The material selection is nothing short of intentional. Polished stones, handcrafted tiles, and warm wood form the flooring, while textured lime plaster on the walls serves as a backdrop for carefully chosen artwork. The rich, tactile quality of locally sourced fabrics and custom woodwork adds layers of warmth, while Atelier |X| Architects’ signature metal lines provide a contemporary edge, seamlessly blending craftsmanship with modern design.

In ‘Liminal,’ Atelier |X| Architects have crafted more than a home; they have orchestrated a sensory journey—a space where each room transforms the experience, inviting one to traverse thresholds of color, texture, and mood. This home is not just lived in; it’s explored, embraced and felt.
