Farah Agarwal engineers a kaleidoscopic haven in the Chennai skyline

High above Chennai’s bustling streets, a residence challenges the conventional wisdom of luxury living. Azure, an 8,000-square-foot apartment designed by Farah Agarwal of Chestnut Storeys, breaks free from the predictable beige-toned monotony of upscale homes to embrace a bold, colour-rich aesthetic that mirrors the dynamic spirit of its coastal setting.

The project began with an ambitious vision: to create a space that would capture the ever-changing palette of the Bay of Bengal while delivering a contemporary living experience that prioritises both drama and comfort. Moving away from the safe harbour of neutral interiors, Farah has orchestrated a symphony of colours, textures, and materials that dance together in unexpected harmony.

Colour Symphony

At the heart of Azure’s design philosophy lies a sophisticated interplay of jewel tones – deep blues, rich ambers, emerald greens, and coral accents – all grounded by smoky greys that serve as a refined canvas. These carefully chosen hues don’t just decorate the space; they transform it, creating distinct moods that shift with the natural light flooding through the expansive windows.

Social Spaces that Spark Conversation

The social spaces showcase Farah’s approach to spatial planning. The dining area features a striking chef’s table with a concrete-like finish, surrounded by inviting burnt-orange chairs that add warmth to the minimalist backdrop. A thoughtfully designed sit-out area extends the living space outward, featuring a living green wall that brings nature into this sky-high sanctuary.

Personal Retreats

The guest room surprises with a checkered mirror mosaic that plays against a floor-to-ceiling fabric headboard in soft blues. The master suite elevates luxury with its innovative combination of wood and copper elements, while the junior master suite makes a statement with dramatic marble veining that commands attention.

Entertainment at New Heights

The fourth-floor entertainment zone is where the residence reaches its creative pinnacle. Here, a state-of-the-art home theatre wrapped in crimson and burgundy acoustic panels provides an immersive escape. The adjacent lounge area offers a perfect transition space, completing the floor’s dedication to leisure and entertainment.

The Social Heart

The bar area emerges as another highlight, where tropical-inspired design elements meet sophisticated functionality. Blues and greens reminiscent of ocean waters dance across the walls, while a marble waterfall edge bar becomes a natural gathering point for social occasions.

Every element, from the spiral staircase to the smallest decorative detail, contributes to a larger narrative about modern luxury living.
