As you step through the neutral ivory and gold classical door of the Countryside Home, a sense of calm immediately envelops you, setting the tone for the serene ambiance that pervades the space. This beautifully curated 1160 sq. ft. apartment in the quaint neighborhood of Paras Irene was envisioned and designed by Designery, led by founders Deeksha Jiwani and Sushant Madan. The design merges the enduring charm of English country style with modern sensibilities, creating a space where classic and contemporary elements come together effortlessly.
Upon entering, you find yourself in a narrow foyer, where three-sided checkered ivory wall paneling forms a refined backdrop. A statement console adorned with vintage collectibles catches the eye, infusing the entryway with personality and nostalgia. As Deeksha Jiwani recalls, the mandir positioned next to the entrance became one of the home’s most appreciated features. What was once a layout lacking a dedicated space for meditation and prayer, now has this serene corner that brings positivity right at the entrance.
The foyer is crowned with a grand wooden stepped ceiling and a classic glass chandelier. Gold-accented lotus and ram motifs complete the look, blending English classical design with modern Indian aesthetics. This introduction sets the tone for the rest of the home, where every room tells a story of thoughtful design.
The space naturally opens into the living-dining area, where comfort, character, and conversation starters meet. The design is functionally flexible, transitioning effortlessly from a cozy family lounge to a semi-formal drawing room—perfect for hosting guests. A standout feature is the state-of-the-art convertible console unit, which transforms into an elaborate bar for entertaining. The TV unit, with sliding shutters, doubles as an art frame when closed and serves as a fully functional media unit when opened.
Soft pastel walls and muted tropical prints breathe life into the space, while bold furniture pieces—such as the monogrammed gold coffee table and the circular dining table with a striking black-and-white radial pattern—add visual interest and personality. These elements combine to create a space that’s inviting yet sophisticated.
On either side of the linear corridor are the kitchen and bedrooms. The corridor itself continues the design narrative, showcasing intricate ceiling details referencing countryside coffered patterns and wainscoted walls painted in soft white and green hues. This not only enhances the flow of the home but also creates a sense of continuity throughout the space. The kitchen, painted in a pastel English green, is both functional and tranquil, with shaker-style cabinets and brass handles evoking vintage charm while maintaining a fresh, modern sensibility.
At the end of the corridor lies the master bedroom, where subtle, neutral patterns blend with understated elegance. Monotoned ivory mouldings on the walls provide a classic touch, while pastel blue upholstery on the bed adds a pop of color. The room’s design creates a serene environment, offering the perfect balance of comfort and style.
The kid’s room strikes a perfect balance between youthful energy and refined design. While subtly incorporating a Chicago Bulls theme, the space maintains harmony with the overall palette of the home. A soft grey backdrop allows hints of red to stand out without overwhelming the room. Multifunctional furniture, such as a TV-cum-bookshelf-cap display and a study table that doubles as a side table, maximize both space and utility.
The guest bedroom, frequently used by visiting family members, combines rustic charm with modern touches. Natural materials like rattan and cane were introduced, evoking the timeless appeal of country style while offering a contemporary update. This tactile warmth offers a welcoming space for guests to relax and unwind, reinforcing the home’s essence of comfort and elegance.
A modern family of three approached Designery with a vision for their home—a space that was “perfectly tasteful but slightly dated,” with an enduring love for English country style. The design was crafted to blend simplicity, comfort, and the soft pastel hues of modern living, while infusing the space with personality and warmth.
The project is rooted in a fusion of English country style and modern sensibilities. The muted pastel palette—featuring soft blues and greens—creates a calm, lived-in feel, while quirky patterns, antique artifacts, leather furniture, and subtle classical details add visual interest and depth. Multifunctionality plays a key role in the design, ensuring that the space is both functional and elegant.
Materials and finishes are carefully selected to create a cohesive narrative. Flooring transitions from marble in the common areas to warm wooden planks in private spaces, enhancing comfort and providing a tactile experience. The walls, adorned with pastel-hued wainscoting and select tropical floral wallpaper, add charm and whimsy. Coffered ceilings, particularly in the corridors, play a crucial role in enhancing the space’s proportions. Carefully chosen lighting fixtures, such as antique-style pendant lights and elegant chandeliers, further define the atmosphere.
The kitchen, painted in a pastel English green, is a standout element that initially seemed bold but ultimately became a client favorite. Shaker-style cabinets and brass hardware evoke vintage charm, while multifunctional furniture pieces—such as tufted leather seating and customized wooden consoles—combine form with function.
Although the project did not focus explicitly on sustainability, the use of natural materials such as wood and rattan brings an organic touch to the design, further enhancing the home’s charm. The multifunctional furniture maximizes the use of space, reducing the need for excess while maintaining a practical and beautiful environment.
Designery’s design ethos centers around meticulous attention to detail, ensuring every element enhances the spatial experience. The project beautifully embodies this ethos, from sculptural furniture pieces to inward-stepped coffered ceilings and rhythmic wainscoting. Each detail was carefully considered to contribute to a dynamic and cohesive interior that blends the timeless and the contemporary.
The most rewarding aspect of the design process was the transformation of the corridor. Once a simple passageway, it was reimagined with inward-stepped coffered ceilings and ivory and pastel blue wainscoting, creating a space that is visually engaging and full of character. Another key highlight was the kitchen, where the bold pastel green color proved to be a surprising and beloved design decision.
Thoughtful space planning was critical in overcoming some challenges, such as incorporating the mandir space within the constraints of a 3BHK apartment. By placing the mandir near the entrance, the space felt both private and connected to the rest of the home, enhancing the overall energy of the apartment.
Convincing the youngest member of the family, the 15-year-old son, to embrace the English country style was another challenge. Initially determined to have a Chicago Bulls-themed room, he later agreed to a more refined design that subtly incorporated his theme without overwhelming the space. Multifunctional furniture helped create a stylish yet practical room that harmonised with the overall aesthetic of the home.
Every corner of the home tells a story of careful consideration and design excellence, resulting in a space that feels both lived-in and luxurious.
