This Chennai office by Hsc Designs refuses to play by the rules

Most offices settle into the safety of sterile monotony, but this space tears up the rulebook—a bold labyrinth where every detail speaks of rebellion. The ceiling, a fragmented mirror of a restless sky, dances with shards of light, while mesh and metal collide like a medley of opposites. This isn’t an office pretending to inspire—it’s an arena where ideas collide, scatter and rebuild into something unrecognisable. The mundane has packed its bags, leaving behind a stage where only the audacious can perform.

In a landscape of predictable workspaces, Mirages Azul in Chennai by Hsc Designs is an adventurous workspace that explores bold, uncharted territories of design. “They wanted a space that reflected their values and design aesthetics, along with their branding colours. The client, who is a very creative designer, wanted the space to be the start of her aesthetic exploration journey,” says Hiloni Sutaria, Principal Designer at Hsc Designs.

Lines, Layers and the Unexpected

The neutral concrete floors and walls act as a steady backdrop, allowing the bolder elements to shine. Sunlight streams through oversized windows, painting ever-changing patterns on the surfaces and breathing life into the room. Industrial details like polished concrete ground the space, while the playful furniture hints at a world of possibilities.

Take the chair: made of sleek metallic tubes, it’s part sculpture, part seating. It defies traditional expectations, standing as a centerpiece that sparks curiosity. Next to it, the desk flows in fluid, organic lines, as though frozen mid-motion. Anchored by a deep-blue glass base, it pairs texture with movement.

Textures That Speak Boldly

The glossy sapphire-blue partition wall ties the room together. Its grid-like arrangement introduces order without disrupting the energy, while its bright hue mirrors the brand’s dynamic personality. The reflections from its surface shift throughout the day, creating a visual rhythm that enlivens the room.

Above all, the ceiling is clad in fragmented, mirrored panels; it refracts light and perspective in unexpected ways. The effect is like walking under a mosaic of shattered glass or catching glimpses of the sky through a kaleidoscope. It captures the spirit of the startup: daring, bold and endlessly creative.

Here, ideas don’t just happen—they unfold, evolve, and take shape. Mirages Azul isn’t a space you simply walk into; it’s a place that leaves its mark, reminding you that creativity thrives best in the unexpected.
