In the historic city of Kurukshetra, interior designer Amina Bhatia has painted a live canvas where history, art, and contemporary elegance intertwine. A home with a story to tell…

For industrialist and politician Naveen Jindal, the residence is an extension of his multifaceted identity—a space that balances his commanding presence in business and governance with the warmth of family life. The interiors echo this duality, combining grandeur with intimacy. From black-and-white family portraits that narrate a story of legacy, to an artfully curated ambiance that emanates understated luxury, every corner of the home is imbued with meaning.

Equally instrumental in shaping the home’s essence is Shallu Jindal, an accomplished Kuchipudi dancer and an ardent patron of the arts. Her influence is most evident in the skylight area, where an ethereal interplay of natural light and handcrafted elements creates a sanctuary of serenity. Inspired by the artisanal aesthetics of Good Earth, the space embraces bold patterns, intricate Suzani textiles, and rich textures that add warmth and depth to the interiors.

A design that breathes life

Amina Bhatia’s challenge was not merely to renovate but to transform—a task she accomplished within an astonishing 30-day timeframe. Her approach to design is both intuitive and immersive, ensuring that the home is not just aesthetically compelling but also deeply resonant with the Jindals’ way of life.

Upon entering, visitors are welcomed into an entrance lounge that sets the tone for the rest of the home—bathed in soft, diffused light and curated with an eye for detail. The colour palette, inspired by Good Earth’s signature hues, provides a sophisticated backdrop for the collection of artworks that punctuate the space.

At the heart of the home lies the sun-drenched central skylight area, a striking architectural feature that serves as a gathering space for the family. Here, an arresting pegasus sculpture pays homage to Naveen Jindal’s love for polo, symbolising strength, freedom, and ambition. Alongside, an evocative artwork by Kaimurai adds a layer of visual intrigue, making this space a true focal point.

Spaces designed for comfort and connection

Guest bedrooms exude quiet luxury, with a muted colour palette that fosters relaxation. Floral patterns, handcrafted ceramic lamps, and bespoke furniture create an inviting retreat, ensuring that visitors feel both at home and transported into an oasis of comfort.

The dining area, a celebration of the Jindals’ love for entertaining, is a lesson in thoughtful design. A chandelier crafted from raw tree bark casts delicate, organic shadows, while a sustainably sourced teak wood dining table anchors the space with a sense of permanence and purpose. Here, nature and design engage in a compelling dialogue, enhancing the experience of shared meals and conversations.

A legacy in the making

Every detail in this home—be it antique brass accents, handwoven rugs, or carefully curated books—adds another layer to its rich narrative. Amina Bhatia has skillfully woven together past and present, creating a residence that embraces the future with boundless creativity and elegance.
