Orange is the new black! Ace Associates take cues from a flooring collection in this vibrant home

The most fascinating stage for Ace Associates while designing the interiors of this home in Gujarat was that a flooring company had recently launched a collection of tiles in various vibrant colors, hence, the theme of the house was influenced from the flooring selection and a variety of different color tiles throughout the house.

For the ground floor, the designer of the project opted the two strong colors, melograno color flooring tiles in combination with black color. The client needed a unique colour palette with a rustic theme, however, bedrooms needed to reflect the individual family member personality, hence, the selection of theme and flooring originated.

Terraelino series from Nexion flooring was laid in the common area, bedrooms and bathrooms. Walls painted in marble finish. The balance between these two colors was achieved beyond expectations as it worked in harmony throughout the entire floor. All the artifacts and furniture were selected to compliment the color palette. In a word this house can be described as a “mélange” which means a mixture of a variety of things yet in a symphony.

As one enters the house, every space on the ground floor has melograno tiles and marble finish on the wall and the furniture is in black. Living room has a plain white fabric couch looking elegant with a squarish coffer black false-ceiling which continues in dining room with long hanging lamps from it and the dining table in rich design.

Kitchen is beautifully designed with a black countertop and cabinets with a fluted surface in black along with ceiling and less of melograno finish on walls. Puja and a single chair seating space is bifurcated with a wooden partition.

Furthermore, the staircase has the same melograno flooring on tread and black colored wooden riser with reflecting glass railing and the staircase cabin follows the same theme. However, the upstairs bedrooms have been designed with subtle color schemes contradicting the ground floor color theme but flooring of the same collection.

The ground floor bedroom also follows the ground floor theme with a grandeur four-post bed with the relevant theme wallpaper expressing a royal outcome of the room. The black textured curtains compliment the ambience of the bedroom.

Children’s bedroom has menta color flooring along with the same color marble finish walls with white furniture, and a single bed providing a sense of calmness.

There are two master bedrooms, one with argilla color flooring and marble finish on the walls and ceiling with green fluted wooden paneling on ceiling in the center and a feature wall, with all furniture in raw brown color with a classic bed giving a modern aristocratic vibe.

The other master bedroom feels heavenly with light argilla tint flooring and walls in synchronization with the rest of the house along with art works of blue color.

The concept was to create a stand-out living environment therefor the aesthetic was derived to compliment the theme and decor.

Talking about the trickiest part about designing this home, architect Ashish Patel concludes, “The challenge was to balance the colour palette. The play of the vibrant colors along with other materials was an intriguing exercise to work upon. To maintain natural light balance within, we chose the darker colour scheme on the walls and ceiling.”
