Located in the western suburbs of Mumbai, AIKYAM by AVN Interior Architects is a 3500 sq. ft. home that brings together three generations of one family. The home offers views of the sea and airplanes flying overhead, giving residents a unique perspective of the city while being close to the airport. Designed with modern elements and a simple colour palette, the space balances luxury with practicality, catering to the needs of every family member.
The C-shaped layout of the apartment posed a challenge when designing the space to meet the needs of the grandparents, parents, and children. To address this, the design separated the private areas of the family. One side of the apartment is dedicated to the parents and children, while the other side is for the grandparents and their mandir, allowing everyone to have their own space. The living, dining, and terrace areas were placed centrally, connecting the two sections.
Natural materials like wood, marble, glass, and metal were used throughout the home. White Michael Angelo marble is the dominant material, elevating the living and dining areas. All furniture and materials were sourced from India, reflecting the family’s preference for local production. The design emphasises simplicity and clean lines, with neutral tones dominating the color scheme.
The entrance lobby sets the tone for the home with its high ceiling and striking light fixture. The seating area, with accent chairs around a console, combines style and comfort.
The living room connects the indoor and outdoor areas. The indoor terrace flows directly into the living space, creating an open, airy feel. Furniture is placed near the windows, allowing natural light to flood the room and showcasing the sea view. Custom artwork from the family’s previous homes adds a personal touch to the wall.
The dining area features a rectangular marble dining table with cylindrical metal legs. Above the table, a geometric chandelier made of metal rods adds a contemporary touch. Custom cabinetry fits the room’s modern design.
The master suite includes a bedroom, lounge, study, walk-in closet, and bathroom. The neutral color palette and clean lines create a calm environment. The bed with a beige upholstered headboard is the room’s focal point. A geometric light fixture made of metal and marble provides functional and stylish lighting. Large windows offer plenty of natural light, while sheer curtains maintain privacy.
The parents’ bedrooms are divided into two rooms, each with its own walk-in closet and bathroom. The design of the accent wall behind the bed adds texture, while a minimalist light fixture with a gold base adds a subtle touch to the room.
The elder son’s bedroom combines sophistication with youthful energy. The white walls feature an accent wall reflecting his love for cricket and bowling. A swivel study desk by the window provides a functional space for study, complemented by an ergonomic chair.
The younger son’s room features a light blue and white color scheme, creating a playful and calming environment. A bunk bed crafted from wood extends into a wall-climbing play area, combining fun with functionality.
AIKYAM is a home built around the needs of three generations. The design focuses on creating a functional living space while ensuring comfort and privacy for each family member. By using local materials and a simple, clean design, the home remains practical while offering a comfortable living environment for all.
