Spiro Spero recreates Blah into a casual all day bar and cafe that women would love!

Crafted by Spiro Spero, the brief was to recreate Blah into a casual all day bar and cafe that broke away from the brick and mortar all male directed bars and cafes in the area. We focussed on creating a design that all the lovely women in BKC would love. Something less dinghy and stiff and more flexible and soft in terms of approachability as well as vibe. The high ceilings of Blah gave us some room to play with but the hall like structure was something we knew we had to break away from.

A core part of our design is to ensure that a place is never revealed in one view. With bars and restaurants like Blah  you need people to constantly discover and then rediscover the place. You want different people to love different things, different spots, elements, decor etc.  A cool little thing we’ve added is an indoor micro greens and herb setup using a mix of hydroponics and indoor lights. We’re hoping that we manage to produce enough greens to sustain the entire requirement of the bar.

So we’ve used a lot of cane weaving, plants, metal work to ensure that at no point does the place just lay there exposed flat in front of you but rather it invites you to come in and explore. The space is divided into approximately 4 sections. The first when you enter Blah  is the bar and lounge area. High tables, an open bar, and a private dining area that can seat 20 when needed or split up to house a few separate tables gives just the right ambience for a good corporate team meal to celebrate an important milestone.

The center area of Blah – cafe and bar  doubles up as a high tea setup in the afternoons and also is an entry to the indoor area that could just as easily pass off for a garden. From the raised stage area to the corner nook that hides you from the rest of the crowd – there’s a little spot that’s waiting to become your favourite. A giant metal partition with cane weaving splits another space into a pdr for 24 when required or just a cool space to sit and watch something exciting happen at Jio Garden.

The ceiling planters with their grow lights have herbs growing in the center and ferns off the sides. The giant planter above the bar has a host of flowering plants, some edible, some decorative. The flamingo at the entrance is to remind you that you’re about to step into a place that is a tad bit magical and a whole lotta easy relaxing vibe. It’s spring and autumn at the same time at Bed & Brunch, throughout the year.
