Tucked away on a bustling street in Mumbai’s Carter Road lies an urban sanctuary devoted to wellness and restoration. Within its walls, the din of the surrounding city fades away, as visitors step into a carefully crafted oasis of natural textures and tranquil spaces. This hidden gem is the brainchild of RAD Co + Lab, who ingeniously transformed a vintage house into a holistic haven.
By preserving the original dwelling at its core and building around it in harmony, the designers infused the 6500 sq ft property with a layered sensibility. The result is a one-of-a-kind blend of old and new – a contemporary wellness center anchored in echoes of the past. As soon as one enters, the feeling sinks in of having discovered a portal into another world entirely. Here, amidst wood, brick and stone, the body recuperates and the spirit revives.
At the Heart, A Ruin
The core of the wellness center is a preserved fragment of the original house – exposed brick walls whispering of the past. Within this relic lies the classroom, the sanctum for learning, growth and restoration.
Seamless Blend of Old and New
A pink paloda stone staircase seamlessly bridges old and new, hinting at the juxtaposition of original and added elements. Extensions like the kitchen and bathroom have been integrated into the narrative.
An Urban Oasis
Emerging as a beacon of tranquility, natural wood and stone textures envelope visitors in a serene embrace. Transporting people from the chaotic concrete jungle, the space soothes the senses and rejuvenates the soul.
Harmonious Layers
RAD Co + Lab continues the legacy of layering by building around the original structure. Differing eras and materials interweave to create a textured palimpsest. The wellness programs radiate out from the historic core in harmony.
Sanctuary Amidst the City
Yoga studios, treatment rooms, a store and juice bar promote healing of body and spirit. Water elements instill additional calm. The land becomes a sanctuary of wellbeing amidst the dynamic urban landscape.
