Located on the stunning shores of Anjuna, Goa, Mayan Beach Club is a captivating beachside haven that frames the pristine waters of the Arabian Sea. This 10,500 sq.ft. bohemian dreamland, designed by Ar. Abhigyan Neogi, Founder and Principal Architect at Chromed Design Studio, seamlessly blends architectural grandeur with the tranquility of its natural coastal surroundings.
The highlight of this property is its 100 feet wide stretch of seashore which is more of a blessing for the design team. With the contours of the property divided into 4 different levels, each spot of seating provides a fresh and unmatched experience to the guests. The idea was to not fabricate a restrobar but to create an immersive space that becomes one with nature.
The design concept, to begin with, was to bring about the old-world and raw charm of a long-lost ancient civilisation. This employed the usage of a creative fusion & overlap of organic and edgy design expressions to make it a seamless fusion of various cultural elements, creating a beguiling atmosphere.
The entrance of the Mayan Beach Club serves as an intrigue-creating design element, immersing guests in the allure of ancient civilization. The organic undulated white-washed walls, adorned with sparsely-placed bamboo in an Aztec pattern, creates a visually striking space. As sunlight filters through the bamboo, it casts beautifully dynamic shadows, adding depth and intrigue to the surroundings.
The font used for the club’s branding evokes a sense of a long-lost tribal ancient world, further enhancing the aura of mystery and adventure. The flooring, inspired by the pebble-stone streets of Greek islands, adds a touch of Mediterranean charm, brought about by broken-down and chamfered Carrera marble. Potted vases with ferns, different artworks in wood, and suspended floral cane lights complete the rather mystery-evoking and alluring entrance. This eclectic blend of influences adds depth and character to the overall design, setting the stage for an unforgettable experience.
As you make your way in, towards the beachside, you’ll discover a breathtaking setting that allows you to indulge in the beauty of nature. The expansive outdoor area provides the perfect vantage point to relish a picturesque sunset or revel in a night under the stars. The sandy beach, softly illuminated with warm lighting is the premise that Ar. Abhigyan had envisioned.
The Beach Club offers a variety of spaces designed to cater to different user groups, preferences, and moods. From classy cabanas to semi-open shamianas and a central open space with various table options, the club provides a range of seating choices at different levels. The emphasis on individuality and diversity makes Mayan Beach Club a haven for relaxation and enjoyment. As the signature Chromed Design Studio element, a staircase seating with high tables by the sea brings the guests closer to the soothing waves that lap one’s heart and mind with peace and serenity.
One of the focal elements within the Mayan Beach Club is a sculpture featuring Lady Maya from the folk mythologies, symbolizing a “lost tribe.” The sculpture finished as a carving in stone with greenery growing from within, exudes a mystifying and enigmatic aura. Dried palms from the cabanas on either side frame this statement centre piece adds a touch of natural elegance. This place becomes an “instagrammable spot” for the youth to document their evenings and experiences as a memory attached to this place.
The different cabanas feature a warm material palette comprising wood, rattan, bamboo, and dried palm tree leaves. Polymer thatch, a long-lasting and durable material, is used in the mezzanine structures while natural thatch is used in the roofs of the structures. A sense of sustainability also comes into play with the use of discarded railway sleeper wood, which has been sliced into two different parts- the outer shell and the inner core.
The outer shell is used for the columns and the inner one for the decking of these structures. To further exemplify longevity, the judicious use of composite materials and wood is done to combat the fears of corrosion due to the saline water and the moisture in the air. Macrame hangings, ornaments embellished with shells & beads, and swaying cane lights enhance the beachy atmosphere, casting a soft and inviting glow in the evenings.
The warm material palette is beautifully complemented by white drapes juxtaposed with green potted plants, seamlessly integrating the warm tones with the cool fresh blues of the ocean. A pop of bright colours is also brought in by the means of rugs and cushions. All of the furniture and furnishings were especially curated and designed in-house. The furniture, predominantly crafted from wood and rattan, cohesively concocts a sense of opulence & class and durability, harmonising with the coastal setting. The main lounge area beckons with plush seating arrangements adorned with plush cushions and curtains, offering both comfort and style.
The furnishings are carefully selected to reflect the relaxed and laid-back vibe, while still exuding a sense of elegance and sophistication. To enhance the party-like atmosphere, the club features an open dance floor where guests can groove to the pulsating beats of live DJs or energetic music performances. The swaying boho lighting fixtures create an immersive experience, with dynamic hues and patterns that dance across the room, heightening the decor of excitement and celebration.
The bar at Mayan Beach Club stands as a cultural magnificence, becoming the heart of the party destination in Goa. It is crafted in Mayan patterns laser-cut in Bison board and backlit, only for these majestic motifs and embellishments to glow. A double-storey structure with seating around the bar Attention to detail and continuation of theme is also seen in the washrooms with micro-concrete beige walls adorned with organic mirrors, alongside a wash basin counter that’s carved in wood.
By the coast of the beach, designed in wood with intricate carvings of tribal elements, a portal to the sand and salt showcases the rich tribal heritage. To add a sense of excitement within this natural, organic, and raw atmosphere, the introduction of Mayan masks and totem poles is also artfully played within the design.
This becomes the other focal point, where guests can gather, socialise, and immerse themselves in the vibrant energy of the club. In a nutshell, Mayan Beach Club sets the stage for a truly extraordinary beachside experience. Its architectural and interior design elements pay homage to ancient civilizations, seamlessly blending cultural influences to create a captivating atmosphere. From the Tulum-inspired entrance to the artistic murals, warm cabanas, and coastal opulence, every detail has been thoughtfully crafted to transport guests to a world of elegance and tranquility. Immerse yourself in the architectural splendour and coastal charm of this Beach Club for a truly unforgettable journey.
