Laah-Chee bakery by Navya and A Quarter proves that sometimes, the simplest designs make the sweetest statements

Located on Lodhi Road, New Delhi, Laah-Chee Bakery by Navya and A Quarter captures the essence of modern minimalism with playful retro touches, creating a serene yet inviting space for artisanal delights. The 280-square-foot bakery, conceived by Navya Aggarwal, founder of her namesake practice Navya and A Quarter, transforms the conventional patisserie experience into an architectural confection that’s as carefully crafted as the delicacies within.

A Striking Facade

The exterior serves as the first bite of this visual feast. Vertical stripes in shades of green and elaichi (cardamom) create a striking contrast against the market’s lively backdrop. The large display window, framed with soft curves, adds a playful touch, while the whimsical typography of “Laah-Chee” hints at the creative delights within. A wooden rolling pin door handle further ties the exterior to the bakery’s artisanal roots, blending charm with functionality.

A Calming Interior Palette

Stepping inside, visitors find themselves in a space where minimalism doesn’t mean austerity. The interior unfolds in three distinct zones, orchestrated for the modern customer’s journey. A compact yet inviting seating area greets patrons with wooden barstools and table ledges, leading naturally to the service counter and culminating in an intimate consultation space where chef and client can collaborate on custom creations.

The palette is as carefully curated as a perfectionist’s recipe: beige-toned walls and textured Kota flooring create a warm base, while a striking green tile strip runs through the space like a ribbon around a perfectly wrapped package. But it’s the ceiling that delivers the show-stopping element—large, organic bamboo-fiber circular lights hover above like perfectly risen soufflés, adding an unexpected touch of natural drama to the composed space below.

Navya’s vision shines through in the detailsthe subtly ribbed counter with its gentle curves, the interplay of textures that adds depth without disruption, and the accurate balance of light and shadow. The space demonstrates a deep understanding of its young, on-the-go clientele, offering efficiency without sacrificing style.

Laah-Chee is more than just a bakeryit’s a lesson in restraint, proving that in the world of design, as in baking, sometimes the most impressive results come from knowing exactly how much is enough.
