A Virtual Walkthrough: From Entrance to Zen Master Bedroom

As one embarks on a virtual walk through Kanso, the journey begins with the entrance—an elegant fusion of minimalism and balance. The birch wood bench perched atop a wooden sphere invites visitors to experience the essence of the entire space. The fluted grey wall seamlessly transitions into the entrance door, a mural of basic shapes reflecting the project’s core themes.

The living room, a haven of muted tones and refined textures, showcases a mural echoing the entrance door design. White flutes on the TV wall, marble-ledged storage, and an oversized jute rug from Jaipur Rugs contribute to the apartment’s balanced aesthetic. The dining and kitchen areas showcase the clever use of sliding doors, creating a seamless connection while maintaining functionality and aesthetics.

Bedrooms 01 and 02, inhabited by two brothers, echo a similar palette with unique character twists. Rustic elements, such as black veneer and grey concrete, converge with birch wood, creating cozy yet distinct spaces. The Master Bedroom introduces subtle hints of sage/ochre green, offering a serene retreat with a fluted wall backdrop.

Client’s Brief: A Tranquil Oasis

The foundation of Kanso rests on the brief by Shah family (Kanan, Kirti, Karan and Meet Shah: wholesale traders and dealers of wood and veneer) which was a desire for a home radiating calmness and serenity. As pioneers in the timber and wood industry, the Shahs provided a unique opportunity for team kaviar:collaborative to experiment with the finest veneers and wood, resulting in a celebration of material richness.

Theme: Soft Minimalism in a High-Rise

Kanso, meaning simplicity and purity, embodies soft minimalism within the urban confines of Mumbai. The project draws inspiration from Japanese and Scandinavian cultures, finding common ground between their design ideologies. It seamlessly merges simplicity, craftsmanship, functionality, and attention to detail, tailored to the needs of a nuclear Indian family.

Material Palette: A Symphony of Minimalism and Balance

True to its roots, Kanso features a material palette governed by minimalism and balance. Natural birch wood, polished greige marble, and light grey and sage green concrete textures create a soothing ambiance. Spurts of black veneer, grey concrete, and black metal add warmth and cosiness.

Challenges: Minimalism with Maximum Storage

One of the challenges faced by the design team was achieving a balance between the client’s desire for minimalism and the need for ample storage. A notable solution emerged in the form of the dining table, ingeniously designed to incorporate storage for daily items while maintaining a clean aesthetic.

Conclusion: A Harmonious Haven

Kanso stands as a harmonious haven, a tranquil oasis within the vibrant city of Mumbai. It’s not just a residence; it’s an embodiment of design ideologies, a symphony of materials and elements that seamlessly blend to create a space that reflects simplicity, minimalism, and balance. In crafting Kanso, [Firm Name] has not just designed a home; they’ve curated an experience—a visual journey through serenity and style.
