Inspiring the Future: Pune’s D.Y. Patil School of Design by Resaiki where creativity flourishes in kaleidoscopic hues

Colours, materials, and textures are powerful design tools that can significantly impact and foster stimulating, engaging, and effective learning spaces. This concept is brought to life in the D.Y. Patil School of Design’s campus in Pune. Sterile white walls and cookie-cutter layouts are thrown out the window, embracing a kaleidoscope of hues in this design by Resaiki.

The D.Y. Patil Group, renowned for its vast network of 72 educational institutions in diverse fields, has envisioned the School of Design (SOD) in Pune. The design intervention transforms the 16,000-square-foot ground floor into an exclusive space for a design college. Every detail has been meticulously planned to ensure optimal space utilisation. The ground floor is divided into multiple classrooms, each accommodating 30 students. These classrooms are dedicated to various design streams, including multimedia, UX design, interior design, fashion design, and product design.

Each space erupts in a distinct story, from the Fashion Lab’s fiery orange, which fuels creative combustion, to the CAD Lab’s refreshing lime green, which sparks digital innovation. These aren’t mere backdrops but catalysts for expression, pushing the boundaries of design.

Signage becomes an art form. Colour-coded strips integrated into the walls guide students and visitors, transforming mere directions into a playful design intervention. The ceilings add their share of flair through materials like repurposed PVC pipes and perforated mesh panels. Flexibility is another key feature within this design school. Moveable furniture and open layouts morph to fit any design challenge, whether a collaborative brainstorm or an intimate critique.

From the versatile auditorium to the welcoming reception area, every space fosters interaction and collaboration, breaking down barriers between disciplines and nurturing a vibrant design family. The Dr. D.Y. Patil School of Design is more than just a building; it’s a statement that design education should be bold, inspiring, and brimming with life through the power of colour, innovation, and community.
