#GreenArchitecture: The Green Court Villa designed by Arun Sharma of Atrey Associates revels in its proximity to nature

Nestled in the vicinity of northern ridge area, civil lines, the house speaks volumes of how nature brings joy and positivity. “The client wanted to be surrounded by nature and see greenery anytime and anywhere around the house. And this was the cornerstone of our design,” explains Architect Arun Sharma, Architect & Director, Atrey Associates.

Living in constant touch with nature by combining open spaces and landscaped areas with developed spaces was the true inspiration. The house functions as an oasis in the city, with the symphony of grey, wood, black tones and greenery, the house becomes a portal to nature.

The façade comprises of straight lines and a concrete framework through which one admires the beauty of landscapes. The use of natural stone on front wall enhances the beauty of structure. The colour palette of black, grey, and brown adds a touch of sophistication to the space. The balconies open out to spectacular views of vertical green walls, and the wall serves as a great attraction for a variety of species of birds, including peacocks!

“I strongly believe that it is imperative to practice sustainable architecture. In all our projects, we use locally obtainable and environment friendly materials. Our planning follows the sun path, providing courtyards and greenery, lessening the heat load, and efficient water management,” says Arun. The ground floor comprises of parents’ room in front, a day room and guest room, kitchen on rear side along with the central lobby. The duplex above comprises of master bedroom in front. The kitchen acts as an interlude between the master bedroom and the children’s rooms. The level culminates with a lounge and central double height lobby.

Wellness is an integral part of our lives, and hence the home is equipped with a gym and a spa area! “We’ve planned in a way that every space whether it is the private space or the common area, gets an interesting view of either the green wall, the lush patio, or the landscaped backyard,” explains Arun.

The interior walls are adorned with metal panellings of different straight-line designs but in similar hues. The extensive use of stones on inner walls adds an elegant contrast to the overall ambience. The wooden wall of duplex with same wooden ceiling and a stunning skylight adds the warmth. The overall feel of the house is tropical. The large fenestrations give the visuals that connect interior with exterior. In addition to the beautiful visuals it also gives inner peace.

The different hues in furniture add a quirky feel. The party area on basement floor has a huge bar counter made of natural stone with a stream of water running in the center. The same stone is cladded on wall inside which goes outside as well. The other walls are cladded with wood and looking mirrors. The use of stones and wood compliments the interior of toilets. The basement has beautiful landscaping with water falls and lush green surroundings.
