In a world where urban living often means sacrificing tranquility for convenience, Design Doodle Studio has crafted a penthouse oasis that redefines the concept of modern minimalism. Nestled in the bustling city of Gurugram, this 2800 sq ft residential marvel is a testament to the studio’s unwavering commitment to creating spaces that evoke a sense of calm and rejuvenation. Embracing the Pantone Color of the Year 2024, Peach Fuzz, the principal architects Vijay Kumar & Maha K. have orchestrated a visual symphony that seamlessly blends warm, earthy tones with the elegance of minimalist design.
“The brief was quite simple, they wanted a relaxing vibe to their home with a touch of modern luxury. We were fortunate that they bestowed their entire trust upon our design abilities and allowed us complete creative freedom to try a fresh design approach,” shares Maha. Upon entering the penthouse, one is immediately enveloped in a circular entrance lobby that serves as the central hub, dividing the space into two distinct zones – a private sanctuary and an entertainment haven.
The private zone, adorned with soft, powdery hues and plush fabrics, invites residents to unwind and recharge in the comfort of their bedrooms and personal spaces. Meanwhile, the entertainment zone beckons guests with its seamless flow of living, dining, and outdoor areas, expertly crafted to facilitate socializing and entertaining.
“This project pretty much sums up our design ethos as a studio. We believe in creating minimal, clutter-free spaces with seamless curves which make a simple yet clear statement. We like to play with lots of textures, forms and foliage, and aren’t afraid to use colour as a form of expression. Oh, and we might be a little biased towards arches too, as they somehow end up making an appearance in almost every project of ours!, exclaims Vijay.
Throughout the penthouse, the designers have masterfully incorporated curved elements, blurring the boundaries between floors and walls, creating a continuous, undulating landscape that evokes a sense of fluidity and tranquility. Microcement and lime plaster adorn the surfaces, their seamless textures further enhancing the minimalist aesthetic. Venetian terrazzo inlays, meticulously crafted on-site, add a touch of luxury and artistic flair, acting as visually striking “rugs” that anchor each space.
The colour palette, anchored by Peach Fuzz, is a harmonious blend of soft, muted tones that exude warmth and comfort. The designers have skilfully balanced these hues with rich, textured fabrics and premium solid oak wood furniture, creating a cozy ambiance that invites relaxation and indulgence.
Sustainability is woven into the fabric of this penthouse, with the designers opting for microcement flooring that utilizes the existing marble base, reducing waste and environmental impact. The use of in-situ Venetian terrazzo, comprising waste materials and natural marble chips, further exemplifies the studio’s commitment to eco-friendly practices.
Design Doodle Studio’s penthouse masterpiece is a true celebration of minimalism, infused with the warmth and vibrancy of Pantone’s Peach Fuzz hue. Every inch of this space has been meticulously crafted to evoke a sense of calm, luxury, and sustainability, all while embracing the studio’s ethos of seamless, clutter-free design.
