“Hair is everything. We wish it wasn’t, so we could actually think about something else occasionally, but it is.”— Fleabag. If hair is a statement, then The Saffron Thread Studio is a full-blown manifesto. Nestled in the heart of Marathahalli, Bengaluru, this 1,200 sq ft hair studio is anything but ordinary. Designed by Studio Kaleidospace, the Chennai-based firm led by Daphne Dmello and Nirali Bathia, this hair studio—aptly named for its signature saffron-hued flooring—fuses timeless elegance with playful pop art flair.
More than just a makeover space, it’s a carefully choreographed stage for self-expression, where colour, craft, and creativity converge. “We didn’t want it to feel like a typical salon. We wanted to create something that felt artistic, immersive—and a little unexpected,” reveal the designers. And just like a good haircut, every inch of this studio is calculated.
Saffron at the Core
True to its name, the design story begins at ground level with the striking saffron flooring. It acts as a unifying gesture that stitches the entire layout together. The rich orange hue evokes warmth, creativity, and dynamism, anchoring the interior with confident vibrancy. Set against this bold base are neutral walls in classic nudes and browns, carefully chosen to balance the space and offer a sense of calm. Accents of tomato red and pastel pink add layers of playfulness, drawing from the bold contours and colour stories of pop art.
Sculptural Partitions and Infinite Light
One of the defining features of the studio is a sculptural partition that ripples through the space like a gentle wave. Inspired by natural forms, it separates the consultation zone without disrupting the flow both physically and visually. Beyond its form, the partition functions as a display unit for products, marrying aesthetics with utility.
Art installations elevate the walls with soft, spherical forms abstracted to represent the human head and hair, an intimate and poetic reference to the studio’s purpose. These pieces, with their tactile presence, lend an artistic identity to the interior without veering into the overly literal. Suspended above the central seating zone is a Mobius strip-inspired lighting fixture—a sculptural symbol of infinity that mirrors the studio’s spirit of constant transformation and creativity.
A Space that Flows, Feels, and Functions
Unlike traditional salon layouts, The Saffron Thread Studio is planned as a free-flowing sequence of spaces, eliminating rigid divisions. Each room organically connects to the next, fostering a smooth experience for clients and stylists alike. At the heart of the studio is an organically contoured seating unit, upholstered in plush pink fabric, inviting clients to pause and take in the ambience. Surrounding it are custom-designed elements that ensure both functionality and aesthetic clarity—concealed storage, art-led surfaces, and minimal boundaries that guide rather than confine. This layout creates a spatial rhythm where beauty services blend with moments of reflection, consultation, and creativity. As the designers put it, “We wanted the environment to echo the artistry of the services being offered—fluid, bold, and personal.”
Where Commercial meets Conceptual
The most compelling feature of The Saffron Thread Studio is how it reimagines a commercial interior as a work of conceptual design. From its unexpected use of colour to its sculptural storytelling, the space breaks the mould of what a salon should look or feel like. Instead of defaulting to sterile surfaces or purely functional zones, Studio Kaleidospace has created an immersive and artistic destination.
