boAt’s new 22,000 sq ft office ingeniously fuses industrial rawness with vibrant pops of colour, reflecting their startup roots and audacious spirit

For a disruptive brand making waves in the audio and lifestyle space, boAt’s rapid success meant their startup-sized office in Hauz Khas was taking on water. As they charted massive growth, a new working environment was needed to keep their sails billowing—not just in size, but in spirit. They turned to Space Matrix, maestros of workspace design, to compose their next port of call: a 22,000 square foot office that celebrates their essence. The vision? A space where creativity, collaboration and the boAt brand pulse through every corner.

While ensuring functionality, team Space Matrix elevated the atmosphere by integrating boAt’s vibrant personality through bold pop-art graphics and music-inspired murals. This intentional layering initiates a dialogue between their past and future, creating a space that seamlessly marries familiarity with a sense of exhilaration

For Akshay Lakhanpal, CEO, Space Matrix, this was far more than square footage. “We immersed ourselves in the boAt world,” he shares. Their design thinking process revolved around empathy—understanding passions, inspirations and challenges straight from the source. “We didn’t approach them as clients, but as co-creators.” This collaborative spirit became the secret sauce, building an office that authentically resonates with boAt’s soul.

The open office unfolds as a curated collection of workspaces, providing quiet corners and brainstorming hives for individuals to express their musical preferences. Prioritising wellness, a discreet track encircles the office, subtly encouraging a harmonious balance between body and mind

Unveiling the motivation behind boAt’s new office design, Co-Founder and CMO Aman Gupta shares, “The foundational inspiration was rooted in our core brand philosophy of #DoWhatFloatsYourboAt. Our vision was to create an energetic workspace that authentically reflects who we are – one that fosters creativity, collaboration and individuality for our Gen Z and millennial boAtheads. While functional spaces are important, we wanted to craft an environment that feels inspiring and playful. One that serves as a dynamic and engaging manifestation of our identity.”

There is a myriad of vibrant colours and artwork, all inspired by boAt’s tagline #DoWhatFloatsYourboAt, celebrating what is unique about their style. The first-floor waiting area boasts a bespoke rug backdrop, designed by Doodle Maplus, perfect for photo ops

Strolling through the new space is a journey of discovery, with different zones inspired by boAt’s passion points. From music legends adorning the walls to acoustic panel ceiling details, the audio theme is composed beautifully. Even the materials sing, with a statement pop-art style rug welcoming you at the entrance. For Aman Gupta, his marketing bay got a creative twist. “We transformed a dead-podium into a chillpad with a hanging hammock–a relaxed space encouraging spontaneity.” Touches like industrial pipes and exposed brickwork fuse boAt’s startup roots with their futuristic vision.

The ticker, prominently displayed in the central area, serves as a real-time conduit of information, and also displays live updates of the trends, product launches and visitors creating an immersive experience for employees. As employees pass by, they are instantly connected to the heartbeat of the boAt, fostering a sense of enthusiasm and pride in their work

But this workspace goes beyond the aesthetic to enable the behaviours and culture that steer boAt forward. Spaces cater to collaboration, like the open café lounge buzzing with connections, or solo riffs, with quiet pods for focus work. Ergonomic furniture keeps creatives comfortable however they choose to work. “Adaptable spaces are key for young, diverse teams,” explains Lakhanpal. Even wellbeing ripples through the space with a dedicated fitness track weaving between work points.

“Think open-plan symphony, not cubicle dirge. Teams groove together in clusters, jam solo in quiet nooks, or huddle in brainstorming hubs – their workspaces as diverse as their playlists. The ground floor? It’s a playground for ideas, with a townhall stage fit for impromptu rockstars and a coffee bar lounge buzzing with conversations flowing as smooth as latte art. You can hit the library oasis or challenge colleagues to a friendly pool table duel in the mezzanine – this office knows how to rock both focus and fun,” further elaborates Akshay.

A green wall in Aman’s bay, reimagined from the previous office, features the boAt logo, serving as a focal point for photo opportunities with Aman and visiting celebrities

Aman shares that their new workspace “seamlessly blends brand identity with functionality, crafting a vibrant environment mirroring boAt’s essence.” From the proud Make in India room to raw creative corners, their bold spirit pulses through the space. Yet it’s not trapped in the present. The office stands ready to evolve with boAt’s trajectory, an inspiring platform for current and future talent. “It’s more than a workplace.”

Carefully blended materials, vibrant colors, and innovative design elements contribute to a dynamic and comfortable office environment. The colour palette, inspired by boAt’s energetic identity, incorporates bold colours like electric red, black, and grey. Unique identities in each corner, such as a tent for discussions or a wildernest, contribute to a sense of adventure. The wellness walkway connects the entire office, emphasising the well-being feature present in boAt’s products.

The boAt office isn’t your typical workplace—it’s an energetic universe packed into a 22,000-square-foot canvas. An extension of the cafeteria transforms into a town hall-style seating area, furnished with natural rubberwood for added warmth

Designing for a brand like boAt presented challenges in balancing vibrancy with functionality. The challenge was to create a visually stimulating environment without compromising practicality. Space Matrix addressed this by keeping closed rooms thematic while providing customisation options for personalisation. Designing for a diverse and youthful demographic required a flexible and open approach to encourage team bonding and collaboration.

The boAt office design is a harmonious blend of creativity, functionality, and the brand’s vibrant spirit. Aman Gupta and Space Matrix have collaborated to create a workspace that goes beyond the traditional—when tailored to authentically reflect a brand’s ethos, the working environment becomes a wellspring of inspiration, belonging and strategic impact. As the brand sets sail towards its future, the boAt office stands as an affirmation to the audacious spirit that propels it forward.
