The Purple Ink Studio is crafting captivating narratives and pragmatic urban solutions through an unconventional architectural approach

Whether it’s crafting imaginative residential spaces or transforming urban landscapes, The Purple Ink Studio’s unconventional approach ensures that each project is a unique expression of their creative vision. Conceived by Principals Aditi Pai and Akshay Heranjal in 2011, and laterjoined by Nishita Bhatia and Arpita Pai, the studio passionately believes in an approach that is contextual and unburdened by normalcy. The studio’s focus is divided into two distinct typologies. The first involves unique briefs, through which the team crafts captivating narratives that transcend time and space. The second typology delves into the studio’s non-linear approach to Indian urban projects.

The MARC – Dr Ramdas Pai Convention Hall & Food Court in Bengaluru is a part of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) campus. The design combines a food court on the lower level and a 1,200-seater auditorium above. The design concept revolves around exploring the relationship between built and open spaces, creating a sense of place through orchestrated movement of people in the surrounding plaza. The structure incorporates two lower levels of food court beneath a rigid auditorium framework, blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces. The upper levels emphasise the auditorium’s functionality and the idea of movement through porous transitions and multiple layers concentrated around its circular form. The building skin was rendered in vivid orange continuing inside out symbolising the youthful, vibrant and innovative ideologies that define the very essence of the campus.
