Taliesyn explores the vernacular through meaningful spatial interventions and local materiality

Taliesyn’s design philosophy revolves around creating meaningful spatial interventions that are deeply rooted in the landscape and respond to the vernacular paradigm of site and materiality. Co-Founded in the year 2010 by Ar. Shalini Chandrashekar & Ar. G S Mahaboob Basha, the firm has projects dotting the Southern-Indian frontier ranging a diverse portfolio of Residential, Hospitality, Recreational, Institutional & Cultural genres. “Our body of work is unified by a common thread of contextual sensitivity and architectural experiences that holistically engage the senses,” shares the designer duo.

PROJECT IN FOCUS – THE CABIN HOUSE

The Cabin House by Taliesyn is a one-bedroom weekend home in South Bengaluru, designed as a retreat from urban realities and a celebration of nature. The 349 sq m rectangular dwelling is nestled among jackfruit and mango trees, with pivoted doors blurring the boundaries between the landscape and the residence. The architecture of The Cabin House draws inspiration from simple forms and native bearings. The interior of the rectangular volume is broken effortlessly into a double height living, dining and kitchen with a mezzanine floor on one end to accommodate the master bedroom. Earthy tones throughout the dwelling evoke the setting sun, whilst the starkness of the cement and warm tones of the furniture offer the required depth. Below the mezzanine is the washroom that features a cast in-situ island-concrete basin overlooking the landscape and a full-sized walk-in closet.
